David's interest in engineering started at an early age.  After finishing an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce Filton, Bristol he then specialised in research and development on military aircraft.
He began rallying in 1982 in a TR8 progressing from road rallies to becoming a tarmac stage specialist.

Rather than being just a hobby he decided that he would like to work in the motorsport industry and took a position at Austin Rover working as Tony Pond's technician on the World Rally Championship with the Metro 6R4.  When the cars were banned in 1987 David decided to use his knowledge of the 6R4 by setting up his own company as a specialist.  He built many cars and even redesigned the 6R4 with his own DAM 4100 version.  A lightweight race 6R4 was built with which he had many wins at Castle Combe including lap records and he also campaigned an Ex Le Mans Jaguar XJR11 which proved a real handful.  Around this time he was one of the key figures to develop the Rover Sport Metro Challenge Cars and the 216 Challenge Cars. He also built the Rover 827 Vittesse which set the record on the Isle of Man TT over 100 mile per hour average speed with Tony Pond driving.

After 15 years of being "Mr 6R4" he sold the 6R4 business and moved to Devon.  After taking some time out with the family, he decided to try his hand at property development and enjoyed a slower pace of life.  Still tinkering in his workshop at home he took on a small project with the Renault Clio and built one for tarmac rallying.  With his son James growing up and taking a keen interest in motorsport and four wheels in general, they choice quad bike racing as an ideal way to teach James how to handle a vehicle and he contested the National Quad Championship in 2005.

David's contacts within the motorsport industry led him to Prodrive, and a move into the more modern WRC Subaru.  Starting with an S8 he progressed to a S9 & S10 which he rallied although only a few times a year, still with great success.  Looking for another niche market the Aston Martin (although not normally associated with rallying) was David's next project.  Working alongside Prodrive to develop the Aston Martin Rally GT, David has used this car on tarmac events, rally and track days.  It is an amazing car to drive and watch, with masses of power from the V8 engine its a real crowd pleaser and is certainly a marketing man's dream.  He is continuing to develop this car and he will contest certain rallies and races in 2008.

And now its move over dad, as James,  who contested a few rallies in hire cars and finished well,  takes to the wheel of a Seat Leon competing in the Seat Cupra Championship 2008 (maybe he will let his dad have a go!)
